THE LINE DANCE
I took a walk a while ago,
I wandered out there to the barn,
I thought I heard a fiddle playing,
And something like a song.
There was a party there in progress,
I heard clappin’ near the door,
And I heard what sounded much like thunder,
With feet stompin on the floor.
Instead of just goin’ bargin’ in,
To the window I did sneak,
And when I looked, my jaw done dropped,
At the sight I saw there when I peeked.
The chickens were a scratchin’
A tune there on the wood,
A bit like Achy-Breaky Heart …
They sounded pretty good.
A cow there in the corner
Like a bass fiddle did she sound,
While the bull there in the shadows,
Was nuzzling up to the cow named Brown.
The real sight was in the middle,
Where a dance floor had taken shape.
The sheep were there line dancing,
Now that, friends, took the cake!
There were baa-ing and a jumping,
And their bottoms shook side to side,
They’d make real sexy jestures,
And they did it with tons of pride.
They’d wiggle their pure white fannies,
And they’d bump and grind in time,
To the country song a playing,
They looked just simply fine.
A donkey in the corner,
Would blare out a bold, “Hee Haw”,
And the cows would moo and chew their cuds,
While the goats would take a chaw.
I got so immersed I couldn’t help it,
So I hopped on through the door,
And screamed in one loud voice,
“Man, let’s please hear some more.”
“Are you okay,” I heard the words,
And I felt my shoulder shake,
“Wake up, you’re having a real wild dream,
And keepin’ me awake.”
Twas Lulabelle, my sweet dear wife,
She almost made me cream,
Waking me like that,
From my barn yard line dance dream.
