Need advise about cat problem
 

I know we have some cat lovers here and I was hoping they could help me with a problem. It seems a stray cat has adopted our house as his very own and the trouble with that is he likes to sleep on our cars. He has scratched the paint on my wife's car until I'm sure the front fender is ruined.

To solve this my first impulse was "SHOTGUN" but I don't want to hear my kids cry about it for a week so I am looking for other ways to teach him to keep off the cars. My second thought was to catch him on the car and pick him up and give him a swat on the rump, a good shake and tell him no, but he is still to wild to catch.

Any ideas on how to teach this critter where he does and doesn't belong?

You could try putting orange or lemon peel on you car when you park it up for the night - the strong citrus smell is supposed to keep them away. Or you could try a water pistol - the sudden shock when ever he jumps up will hopefully put him off.

Water hose is good, but we just put sheets over the windshield and hood- it seemed to do the trick. The problem is, the cats like the warmth after the engine has just turned off, so if you can get him another nice snuggly warm spot he'll most likely leave the car alone.

I suggest leaving the hood up. Just be extra quiet when you start it in the morning. :D

i have heard you can purchase coyote piss (or even use your own)and sprinkle it around your property line. it's supposed to keep out strays, deer and other critters.

Charge some condensors from a points distibutor place on rubber mat with some thing (food toy what ever) curiosty will take over not enough voltage to hurt them but they will be frizzed up for a day or two.

personally I like KateKate42's suggestion best and as for Jay-T's suggestion that is way too cruel. I just love cats but like all animals they really don't know the harm they are doing.

Perhaps the cat is tame (perhaps abandoned) and needs a home. I would suggest getting a live trap from the human society and capturing him/her. If it where me I would have the cat "fixed" and find it a home. But if anything I would put a towel down on the car with some cat-nip.

there is a product you can buy from petsmart, called "outdoor no" for cats. My suggestion is not to put it right on the car, but to cover it with a sheet or even just get some cheap plastic you'd use when painting to keep the floors fresh. Spray generously. Keep that on the car for about a week, should have broken him of the habit by then.

Much better for your conscious than harming the poor dear, much better for the car than citrus (so bad for the paint!), and it's a fairly cheap fix. Plus if you sorta like having the little guy around...
