Any Motorcycle Owners....
Hiya....
How many of us here own a motorcycle?....wether it be a road bike or a dirt squirt....chuck in a post and let us know what breed you have :) I have a '88 Kawasaki GPZ750 A3.....black with red & silver pinstriping |
Sharni---As you know;I have been riding for over 42 yrs.I currently
have a '71 Triumph Bonneville;bought new in Connecticut. It is chopped,hardtail,8"fork extension,5.10 Goodyear Speedgrip rear tire;Harley rim-custom spoked to a Triumph hub, step seat, custom wired with a hand made electrical box, hand made sissy- bar,Black imron paint with Kelly Green pinstriping And "Irish"on the custom dished and mounted peanut gas tank. One tooth lower countrsproket gear(for quicker engine windup in the 1/4 mile)1/4" steel gusseted and molded! The engine has too many speed modifications to mention.Besides-Unless you were a gear head; you wouldn't know what I'm talking about. In '72;I attended the Triumph factory school.I got an A in mechanics and an A+ in advanced mechanics.I can rebuild a Triumph engine in my sleep. All of the engine tolerances and clearances are in my head.I don't ride my bike that much anymore but it has too much sentimental value too part with it.Not counting;many hours of work! Irish |
Not for 25 years, Sharni. Yammi 125 with 180 pots and pistons,
went like a rocket but cornered like shit. |
'82 Honda 900 Bol'dor, Australian Spec police interceptor
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm |
Having sex on a motorcylce is ALOT of fun!!! ;) :D
Just be carefull you don't burn your legs on the hot exhaust pipes!!!!!! I still have a slight scar.....LOL... ;) |
LoveDiva4u---As someone who has been riding motorcycles for over 42yrs;just let me say that Where there is a will, there is a way!Man tends to adapt to his environment!Hot exhaust pipes are just one of the things that must be watched out for. Irish
|
So true Irish!!! MEN can ADAPT to almost anything!!!;) :D
|
Diva---It's an unknown fact that most women can too!ANYone can
adapt if they want the end result bad enough! Irish P.S.When you go on a few day "Run";necessity demands that you learn.A tube of hand cream only lasts so long! |
Quote:
(Reminds me of an old thread...Lotion or no lotion...LOL) Wouldn't know Irish...don't use the stuff... You should use saliva instead!!! :D :D ;) (Sorry mind in the gutter today!:p) And thanks Irish...I think it's the first time you called me Diva :) |
Diva---As said in anither thread that I awnsered-Petroleum Jelly-I
think.I don't use saliva!I use Triple Antibiotic Ointment with moisturising cream. The ointment heaps to heal the constant abrasive action and the moisturising lotion helps to lubricate and moisturise. As one who really enjoys my favorite passtime;I have constantly experimented to discover what gives the best results! Yours in experimentation,Irish P.S.Little secret.I never peel after a sunburn because I use the moisturising lotion;after being in the sun.It keeps your skin from drying out.Try it.I haven't peeled in years and we have an above the ground(no taxes)swimming pool. |
Bike/Sex joke.. thought of you guys when I heard this~
The inventor Arthur Davidson, of the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Corporation, died and went to heaven. At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur, "Since you've been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with anyone you want in Heaven." Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, "I want to hang out with God. " St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God. Arthur then asked God, "Hey, aren't you the inventor of woman?" God said, "Ah, yes, " "Well, " said Arthur, "professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention. 1. There's too much inconsistency in the front-end protrusion. 2. It chatters constantly at high speeds. 3. Most of the rear ends are too soft and wobble too much. 4. The intake is placed way to close to the exhaust and finally, 5. The maintenance costs are outrageous." "Hmmmm, you may have some good points there," replied God, "hold on." God went to his Celestial super computer, typed in a few words and waited for the results. The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it. "Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed, " God said to Arthur, "but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours." |
I'm thinking of taking lessons, but its quite expensive . I do fancy getting a bike though now that i can afford it. MissX has taken lessons and has her own Leathers etc, think it would be cool to go out riding together...
|
Mr.X-----Altho;I am no expert;let me give you some advice;from my perspective.I have been riding for many years and;in my opinion;alot of people make the same mistake. They learn to ride and handle; a motorcycle;that is much smaller then they will be using everyday. It may be easier to handle but I have foundthat it is better to have your body and mind used to what you will be using.Don't forget-You usually only get one chance.Plus you have no protection!I may sound like an old man but I have been riding for over 42yrs.Sooner or later;you have to think of practicality not
just fun!I know many riders that are very good and race on dirt&ice but will not ride on the road.As they say;the other drivers don't get hurt but you do! Irish P.S.I will get off of my soapbox now.I'm just trying to help someone to not make the mistakes that I did.I've been riding since I was 15yrs and there were many of them.Of coarse;at 15; you know everything! |
Hi Irish, Thanks for the advice, I saw a lot of that when I was doing my CBT. I failed my full test but hope to take it again before my CBT runs out.
I did try the bigger bikes but I lack the confidence to handle them, so I reckon is a small, perfectly formed model for me! :) |
Miss X---Forgive my ignorance;but what is a CBT?i never heard of
it and as my father said:There is no such thing as a stupid question. The only way that you have the answer is to ask. Irish P.S.I wasn't saying that you must have a big motorcycle.Just to learn on what you will ride.It sounds as if you are doing just that. |
You should see some of the stupid questions I ask...MrX has one heck of a lot of patience with me. A CBT is your provisional, you can ride a 125 but with plates and not on motorways. It only lasts for a couple of years, so I 've got about a year and a half left before I need to renew it.
I really loved it, I've been on the back of bikes but loved being by myself. Ive just got to find a training centre that is a bit less "macho" or go with some girlfriends....Im quite a shy person you see. :) I know guys and gals that are really good with the big motorcycles, the control is so impressive but I don't see me getting to that stage! :) |
MissX---I HATE riding behind someone.They might go to the right ;
in a situation; where you might go to the left.Their way might be just as good or better then yours;but it is still not what your reflexes would do and scares the Hell out of you. Irish |
Yeah I've been there....when the rider was filtering and I just so wasn't happy being between two trucks...thankfully it was a once off but I know that one mistake is all it takes. On the plus side, my car driving improved heaps when I was learning to ride...observation, anticipation and stuff.
|
Forces that road sense to develop, doesn't it!
|
MissX&O.F.---My wife still makes fun of me because I get so mad
when someone is tailgateing me in my car.It comes from riding motorcycles.I always figured that if something happened;in front of me;and I had to stop quickly.By the time the person behind me, saw my brake lights, reacted and hit his brakes, and stopped(braking distance). If I was on a motorcycle;I was probably squashed!Without realising it;you develop those protective reactions. You develop them;automatically;when you have put alot of time on a motorcycle.I used to race motorcycles also and you would be suprised at the instincts that develop! Irish |
When I met my husband he was riding a 79 Yamaha XS1100....and we had a lot of good times on it...
His favorite thing was to put me in front of him on it and pick it up into a catwalk and go down our road.....I learned quick what he really meant when he said hang on...lmao He taught me how to ride although I never got a road license....I could drive that big Yammie no problem but I had to have him on the back because I am just over 5' tall and my legs couldnt touch the ground when I had to stop! |
Any new motorcycle owners?? |
I have a 96 H-D super glide, lot of fun riding. great joke Lil.
|
Nice ride...flyerfan :)
I'm a harley lover myself. |
OH THE SHAME OF IT!!!
I am so disappointed in you Irish!
What could possibly have happening that it took you 41 minutes to clamp onto this thread:confused:? LMFAO :D ;) |
I have a 1996 Yamaha YZ-250 and a 85 Honda CR-250 dirt bikes that I ride around here on trails. My next project: a Harley! :D lol damn i gotta get one of those!
|
Hi all;
Unlike Irish (& various others) I'm not really in to Hogs.. just replaced my 6-yr old Kawasaki ZX-6R with a new ZX636... I KNOW it's japanese Irish, but over here (U.K.) they're more affordable than Harleys... anyway, as one of my American friends describes them, "Crotch Rockets" are so much more FUN over here... twisty roads, sunny day and my lady on the back... bliss!!! I take Irish's point to MissX about the danger of riding on the roads... but, if you love bikes & biking as much as I do, then the risk is worth it! 'sides, I reckon it's the MOST fun anyone could ever have...... with your clothes ON, anyway!!! DM |
I must get round to taking my tests...... I've got a Yam TZR 125.
I've been (solo) on a very nice Honda CBR 600 :D on the back of a VTR1100 yummy !! :) if anyone wants a little looky some of the bikes can be seen here http://www.fluffyknight.co.uk/bikes/bikes.php check out the custom paint job on the CBR grrrrrrrrr SEXY |
dm383 ~ I'm like you...I have a Jap bike too
And to be honest have absolutely no desire to have a Harley....sorry to those that like em...but just not for me...too damn noisy and too damn expensive Q/...What do you call a Harley with twin exhausts? A/...A Wheelbarrow :D |
Sharni, new Harleys are not noisy at all,you have to change the pipes on them to get that pure Harley sound. A new Harley is as quiet as any other new bike.
Bisexy,I have read your other posts you sound like you have really lived the lifestyle, and the tats help prove that. Thanks for the compliment I love my bike,i am planning a sturgis ride for next year. The best I have been to so far is Laconia. |
I did my share of laconias lol...its not what it use to be.And the new harleys are much quieter ...i like em loud though lol.I've never been on anything but harleys, but to each his own :)
BETTER YOUR SIS IN A WHOREHOUSE THAN YOUR BRO ON A HONDA :) NO OFFENSE :) |
BSBDD---You"re right about Laconia not being what it used to be.
Everyone used to have their own unofficial;camp ground;next to the road there. There was no ones official reserved campground but everyone knew what spot belonged to what group. Now you can't even camp legally.I don't even go anymore! The memories that come back ruin it.The last time that I was there;the cops were causing more of a hassle;then the guys were. The locals all- ways complain;but they make more on beer sales;that weekend; then everything else all year. Now the only group;legally there; that I know of;is the H.A.They bought there own piece of land! Irish P.S.I used to ride up from Conn.;now I live about 40mi. away and I don't even go.It's mostly punks;wannabes and weekend warriors;now. The people that think that if you put leathers on; you're a biker.BULLSHIT!! |
EXACTLY....Irish!You could get away with alot more back in the day lol...damn at one time we had staties partying with us ..THAT WAS A TRIP :) My first laconia was in 80 when i was 19 ...wasn't sure bout goin, when it was time to leave i knew i'd be goin back lol.But like you said i don't care about going now its gotten commercial...full of yuppies and wannabes. And if most of the people that go now went back then....and took a trip to one of those off road campsites they'd be flyin their asses home.
|
BSBDD---The year that I felt sorriest for people;was around 1963-
64(?)I was stationed at PeaseAFB(Ports.NH)The state called on the National Guard;to help keep order;About 30% of them were bikers;in real life;and were planning to go as bikers. Now they were sending them there;to arrest;their buddies.Talk about confusion&conflict of interest!I was actually called;in front of;the Wing Commander and told that owning a motorcycle;was Action; unbecoming of an Airman.I told him"Tough Shit"It was a legally licensed vehicle in the state and none of his business! That went over like a fart in church but this is me.No one ever told me how to run my life and never will!Needless to say;I didn't have a promising career in the Armed Forces. Irish |
I have a GS550 suzuki it gets me from point a to point b, but am hoping to get a goldwing someday. Isn't fantasy wonderful.
|
I have;an older friend(25/30yrs)He has been riding for over 30yrs.
He retired from the service. He was a service manager of a Harley shop;until he retired for good.He now runs a Harley repair shop; out of his garage. He has Harley part #s;coming out of his ears. His personal bike;bought new---Honda Gold Wing! Irish |
I've been riding for about 10 yrs now, mainly Harleys. Right now I have an 81 FLH. Done a few coast to coast trips and travelled in Europe a lot too. Its the only way to go. Like they say, things are different on a Harley. I was going to post a pic but can't figure out how, lol.
|
BUMP!!
Any others ride?? |
I rode bikes for many years. My latest was a '75 Harley Sportster. Damn I miss that bike. I got married and she hated it so I sold it. Now she's an ex.... leave it to me to part with the wrong ride.
|
