Oh, this is weird, I was sitting here with a Twinkie, and thinking about starting a "what's you favorite junk food " thread. Found this instead.

Speaking of great minds thinking alike, I'm like Lixy. ANY CARB is in danger of disappearing near me. I love taters and pasta and would eat them ALL THE TIME if I could. Sometimes I have carb-free days but more often than not, I don't :)

Oh, BTW, I am being the lizard I am, I am especially fond of gummi worms.

Aside from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 6th posting females here I guess if I had to choose real food it'd be a toss up between broiled flounder and chicken fajitas. Helluva combo huh? I also share Lilith's love for the goober peas. I just had a big bag last night as a matter of fact.

I lived down south for a while......did they hide them all when I was there? What do they taste like? Why are they boiled? What's the difference between them and the reg. peanuts ya get in the Planter's can? Hmmmmmmmmmmm???? Or even just right outta the shell?

Raw green peanuts straight out of the ground, well yes they get washed, are boiled for hours in extremely salty water. The peanuts inside the shells get soft and absorb the salty juice. I prefer to eat mine warm. They are messy as hell and should be coaxed from the shell with your tongue. Then slurped to get all the salty juice. It is a southern delicacy.

I have to say that these last ones were the biggest nuts I have ever put in my mouth. And the juice was lip smacking tasty, not too salty, just right. In fact I think I even dribbled some down my chin. I had to lick my lips and fingers to get every drop. Only problem was that it squirted in my eye and nearly blinded me :cool: ;)

That's very interesting. I've never heard of this way of enjoying peanuts. From your comments, I'm surprised that this recipe has remained obscure.

Boiled?? :confused: Why have I never heard anything except "Get your fresh.. ROASTED.. peanuts!" I often wondered how you roast something inside a shell. Wouldn't that be baking it?
I knew "goober peas" was another name for peanuts, but hot, wet, peanuts sounds like a whole different thing. Wouldn't they float? How the hell would you boil them? (Can you tell I don't cook?;) )

Huge pot filled with water and a cup of salt. They float til they absorb enough of the salty water. You cook them for hours. :slurp:

Somebody around here got me hooked on deep fried dill pickles ... although as much as I love them, I probably couldn't quite eat my weight in them. Maybe just two legs and an arm or so. :D

And....our squirrels are stock piling "horse chestnuts" and black walnuts at the moment....I think they use em as currency when they go and buy peanuts at the little squirrel store in the woods! LMAO!

Those damn Walmarts have everything, don't they? Raw green peanuts you can now get there? Jees, that'll spell the end of the mom & pop raw green peanut shop downtown! I'd picket, but no one will join me!
