Had a '73' Sportster.........bought it in a box and built it from there! Sold everything but the cat, the camaro and the scuba gear when we moved to Florida. Came back to Pa. and bought a house.......so we ran outta money before we could buy the bike back. Haven't had a savings account to speak of since that damn down payment. But there is always the elusive future! LOL!

I've been riding a few years. At the moment I ride a 1983 Yamaha XVZ12 Venture. My wife rides a 1999 Triumph Legend TT. We did a 17 day, 18 state, 5613 mile tour of the Western US last year. This year we're headed down the West coast, from the tip of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington (that's where I live) to the Mexican border. Some day I'd love to come ride your country. Maybe, someday. Comshaw |
Comshaw---1st,Welcome!2cd,I have a question.I have been
a serious Triumph follower, for many years.I have gone to the Triumph factory school.I have been riding for over 43 yrs.The last few yrs.,I havn't kept up with any of the newer bikes. My bike,is a '73 Triumph chopper, bought new in Conn.& rebuilt many times with many custom modifications. Is your wifes bike a two or three cyl?I didn't even know that they made a triple, except for the Trident, until I stopped one day to look at a bike for sale & realised that it was 3cyl instead of 2cyl.I haven't followed most bikes, since they took on the RACER look. The reason that I ask,is that Triumph is my preferred personal bike. There is a great following for Harleys. They look&sound nice, but after running my own motorcycle shop,I will ride them but not own one. This is looking at things from a mechanics point of view, so Harley affectionados, don't start writting in. Irish P.S.Different strokes, for different folks! |
I was wondering if you guys have a pics of your bikes? I don't ride or have one but I love them. I think bikers are ohhhhhhh so sexy;)
If you got 'em post 'em? |
Lilith---Any pictures of my bike were taken years ago, with an
old-style camera.I have OLD photos but not the negatives.I wouldn't know how or even IF they could be converted to computer pictures. Irish P.S.When I first chopped my bike from stock,I took pictures,to show the difference.I also have pictures of my Grandson, sitting on my bike.He was 1yr old in the pictures. He is 10yrs now.Thats how old the pictures are!My bike is painted Black Imron with Kelly Green Pin Striping. The striping says"Irish"on the "dished" sides of the"peanut"gas tank! You would love it! |

Here's a picture of the three bikes that went on our ride last year. Mine is the Maroon one on the left. The next one is my buddy's 1997 Valkyrie. The one on the right is the 1987 Suzuki Intruder my wife rode. Irish, I'll try to post a picture of my wife's Legend next. It is a 900cc triple based on the old Trident motor. I've also got a picture you will be really interested in. It's a new cruiser Triumph is going to produce. I't's a 2300cc in line three cylinder. I think you'll like it.
BTW, I've been riding since 1967 and have ridden a few Harleys, but have yet to own one. The only one's that have ever struck my fancy was the XR750, XR1000 and the new V-Rod. All the rest of their models are Ok bikes but just don'tt do it for me. Comshaw |

Well I've just discovered I don't have any pictures of her new bike (jealousy on my part I think). Anyway here's a picture of the new cruiser Triumph is going to produce. Keep in mind this is a preproduction model, so the actual one might not look like this.
Comshaw |
WOW! Nice bikes guys! Gonna dig some pics out and scan them to post........but at the moment, he is snoring his brains out! It's not a pretty picture........so
I'll be back! |

This is my new baby...... the fairing says it all!! (Only 4 miles on it here... the day after I got it!) |
Last nights thread, shows how being overtired, makes you think
screwed up.I had just done physical labor(removing snow&ice) outside for about 14hrs.I reread this thread, this morning, and realised my errors. My bike is a '71 Triumph Bonneville chopper! Not '73,as I wrote.I went to Triumph factory school in '73.It's a good thing that I reread it this morning.I never really believed that fatigue affected you that much but evidently it does. After having that bike, for all those years, you wouldn't think that I would make a mistake like that!I have owned other bikes, but always kept that one.I not only love it but know its history since it was new. Irish |
Wooohoooo DM.....nice bike!!

I was just digging through the older threads and found this one.
I have a 200 Yamaha 650 V Star that I love. It's not as fast as some of the sport bikes or as revered as a HD, but it gets me from point a to point b nicely. Love to ride with a breeze between my knees! |

Thanks Lil, if i only had someone to lay back on the gas tank and ride my Tongue, i'd be in Hawg Heaven.. hehe
|
I'm bumping this thread in for two reasons
1- In case we have any newer members who ride 2- In case any of our members might be interested in this http://sturgismsrally.com Which is coming up in august. |
Just back from a great rally in John O Groats (way up in the north east of Scotland)~~~~it rained for most of the way there, the rally and the way back~~~but was worth every last min!
Rode up on a Kawasaki 1100 Rally was held by TEAM MCC |
I,personally, don't go to any of the motorcycle rallys, anymore. They
may be enjoyable to the newer riders, but I've been riding & building motorcyles for over 45 yrs now & the motorcycling lifestyle has changed,so much, that it's just not enjoyable,to me anymore! I realise that everything changes, but in my opinion,it was much more enjoyable, before. The comraderie, that attracted me,originally ,isn't there anymore. Before people get defensive,I can only say that you have to be old enough,to see,the difference. Irish |
I have (sort of) a 1980 Suzuki motocross bike. The sort of is because it is still in pieces after a bit of a spill off a mogul. :o
Haven't riden much since then but would love to. Just never seemed to find the money to get another bike. |
darogle---The cost of a motorcycle, for the amount of use,is rediculous now.If you know bike mechanics yourself, you can occasionally ,get one that needs repair, for a decent price. Then unless you have a dealer, sales or repair license, the parts dealers,
won't give you a discount,so you're basically screwed.In a way, you can't fault the parts dealers.If they didn't use that system, everyone would say that they wanted a discount for "Joes(etc) Garage".It's a no-win situation! Irish |
*Bump*
|
Are there no other motorcycle riders here??????????????
|
Not my current ride.. but it's what I would buy this minute if I had the money...
![]() |
Ewwww a Triumph......lol. I myself own a 1995 Honda Shadow 1100c. I would love to get a new bike since mine is a little on the small side. Not engine wise, but frame wise. Killed my knees when I rode it to South Carolina and back. Unfortunately, I can't afford insurance on both my bike and my car and I need the car more so I haven't ridden in over a year now. Kind of sucks.
|
I hadn't really considered Triumph until recently. The main thing I like about it is that you don't see them every time you turn your head. Although, it's also the thing that worries me. :p V-twins are everywhere and I like the look of the parallel twin. I also hear their reliability is top notch.
|
I know someone with a triumph. They seem to be a constant tinker. If you have the time and know how worth it for the fact that you don't see them everywhere. I have heard that they're a rough ride though. Real kidney knockers.
|
I'm selling my bike...its been sitting in the shed for 10+yrs now. Its now 21yrs old, bloody hell thats gone fast, i can still remember rolling it out of the showroom *L* Its only done just under 48,000klm, just run in really.
Mind you when i say im selling it, i'm in no hurry *L* I could sure use the money, but dammit i'm attached to the damn thing |

Must be an old 'un then - modern ones are just soooo much better!! I sold my ZX6-R about 4 years ago now, as I was never really able to use it. Between working (too much!), and spending every spare hour taking my daughter to horse-riding or associated events, meant I almost never was able to even wheel it out of the garage. Still, I've promised myself that when everything's 'sorted' so to speak, I'm getting myself a Honda Blackbird XX ...... just for fun, you understand!! |
I ride a Yamaha xv750 almost every day, i took up riding again about 7 years ago and found i enjoy it so much, i joined a club last year and we have a ball
|
It is an older one dm. For the most part who cares what you ride so long as you're in the wind. Only thing that bugs me is when people say I need to trade in my cruiser for a ninja and the like. I don't like the crotch rockets and it's got very little to do with the amount of power they have (after all they were designed as race bikes). I just don't find the comfortable. I actually had a coworker say I need one so I can do wheelies and stoppies on it to impress the girls. I told him we'll hang out one night and you can do that stuff. You'll be in the hospital and I'll have the "bitch" on the back of my cruiser.

Anyone who is a constant "tinkerer" with an older Triumph, didn't know how to
build them correctly in the first place!Don't forget, this is coming from someone who has operated 2 Motorcycle businesses(two towns)My motorcycle of choice is a later 60's-early 70's Triumph twin.A triple cylinder,is just one more cyl, carbuerator, pts, spark plug, etc,to mess with for the same power!I,personally, don't like twocycle engines because they derive thier power from RPMs & not torque.(translation-shorter eng life)Also I used to Drag Race motorcycles,so if it wasn't neccessary & wieghed anything-it wasn't on my bike! Now everyone builds bikes for comfort.I don't knock it but as I've always said-Different strokes for different folks!I've put thousands of miles on with a hardtail, raked frame & extended front end! Irish :irish: P.S.Two weekends ago,my wife & I,went to an Open House at a Triumph Dealer. The prices are outrageous! My wife bought me a new Triumph T-shirt! |
The Triumphs are rather pricey when compared to other bikes of similar engine size, Irish. My wife and I went to a dealer recently so I could look at bikes. The funny thing was, we spent more time looking at the one she liked. She doesn't even have her endorsement yet. :p

Well that is you :) I'd buy a Kwaka Ninja in a heartbeat, damn nice bike *L*. What others choose to ride is their business. I dont see why someone deciding to sell their cruiser to buy a sports bike should annoy you *L* Again you dont find them comfy, well thats you. I own a sports cruiser, and would again. The power has nothing to do with my preference for sports type bike either, i just prefer the style of them. The only time i found it a bit challenging in the comfort stakes was when i was 8+months preggers *LOL*. Ya need to tell ya coworker they're a dickhead. My sports bike has never done a wheelie in its life. Just because ya own one doesnt mean you are a showoff either. |
I never said that all sport bike owners are showoffs. I was annoyed with my coworker because he kept wanting ME to turn in MY bike for a sports style.
