An interesting fact I just read from my new "OMG Facts" desktop calendar is that our (US) President James Garfield could write Latin with one hand and Greek with the other at the same time. That to me is amazing.

gekkogecko 01-06-2019 11:04 AM

I went to a mini-game convention yesterday, Brunswick Games Day in western Maryland. So many games...played:
Dinosaur Island (new game i own, and took with the intention of teaching/playing)
Tsuro
Exploding Kittens
Azul
Bears vs Babies
Codenames
Puerto Rico

maybe one or two others that I can't remember.
Loads of fun, and the weekend coming, I'm at Congress of Gamers, much more local to me.

PantyFanatic 01-07-2019 02:12 PM

DB; that little calendar of yours is interesting to say the least.

dicksbro 01-08-2019 05:52 AM

Yeah, like this morning when I turned the date and … TA DAH … I learned something I never knew before … or even knew to think about …

"On average, there are 178 sesame seeds on each McDonald's Big Mac bun."

See, you learn something new every day. :faint:

PantyFanatic 01-20-2019 03:37 PM

YAAAAAAAAAA Blackhawks
:cheerlead :cheerlead

:hockey:

Teddy Bear 01-20-2019 10:30 PM

I'm sorry, I must have read that wrong?

It's.....YAAAAAAAAA., PATRIOTS!!

WOOT WOOT...… wE'RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL.

I know they're different sports, but yaaaa Patroits (:

dicksbro 01-21-2019 12:28 AM

Today's calendar bit of trivia is that lightning is five time hotter than the sun. I'm surprised they didn't add what we know to be true, that's only a fraction of how hot our Pixies ladies are. :D

gekkogecko 01-26-2019 10:26 AM

Today marks twentynine years with the mammal I married.

PantyFanatic 01-26-2019 02:20 PM

Congrats GG :wine:

Teddy Bear 01-26-2019 09:04 PM

WOW!!! GG, 29 years, that's super. You must have been a child when you wed.

dicksbro 01-27-2019 01:48 AM

Congrats to you and your Mrs. Here's to the next 29!

Hardly; 56-29=27

Teddy Bear 01-27-2019 04:58 PM

T'was an off handed complement, saying you don't look that old.

Guess it's that new math.

Ah. Missed that. For the record, was also an off-handed reply. I'm very much of the idea that age ain't nuthin' but a number.

dicksbro 01-29-2019 02:11 AM

I agree, that's why I stopped 36 years ago at 39. :boink:

Teddy Bear 01-31-2019 06:57 PM

Age is only a number but sadly the calendar still says that number every year, loud and clear !

dicksbro 02-04-2019 01:39 AM

I think maybe Hallmark started the counting when they realized how much they could make selling cards. :D

gekkogecko 02-04-2019 10:39 AM

The annual question

Who, in your opinion won the Superb Owl? ANd for those of you unfamiliar, I'm not talking about the game. I'm talking about the ads.

The one for the Washington Post was pretty powerful.
Game of Thrones ad was a great take on an old meme, as well.

dicksbro 02-05-2019 01:17 AM

I liked the Game of Thrones ad.

dicksbro 02-06-2019 12:34 AM

My Avatar for today is of the ship we (My dad and mom, brother and I) sailed to Germany on in 1947 where we lived for 3 years. The General Daniel Sultan.

gekkogecko 02-07-2019 06:30 AM

My degenerative disc disease is acting up again, the pain is keeping me from sleeping, my right leg usually can't support my weight. Ended up at the Urgent care place instead of the allergist appointment I had scheduled, so I have to re-schedule that. After I hit the orthopedist's office today. Anti-inflammatories aren't doing crap to help. X-rays showed no fractures or real injuries, but there's steadily increasing osteocytes (arthritis), and most likely more herneation of the lumbar discs.

No fun. No fun at all, despite the enforced time off work.

dicksbro 02-08-2019 01:34 AM

Sorry to hear of the pain and difficulties you're experiencing. We're keeping you in our prayers and hope sincerely that a way to ease the discomfort and pain will soon be found. Just take care!

gekkogecko 02-08-2019 12:07 PM

Ortho-dude said take there steroids, and get an MRI.

dicksbro 02-09-2019 02:35 AM

^^^^

Today's avatar is the ship we sailed back from Japan on in 1958. The USS Gen. William Mitchell. My Dad was stationed there from 1954 to 1958. Mom, my brother and I joined him in 1955 spending a year and a half in Sendai (remember the tsunami) and a year and a half in Yokohama. If we had returned to the US a week later, we might well have sailed by on the USS Gen. Daniel Sultan the ship we took to Germany in 1947. That would have been an amazing coincidence, wouldn't it?

gekkogecko 02-09-2019 10:23 AM

Hunh, never knew Billy got a transport named after him. Thatks for the bit of capsule history, DB.

Teddy Bear 02-10-2019 01:25 PM

hi gg, so sorry to hear you're having such pain. hope the docs come up with something to help you really soon!

Aqua 02-13-2019 06:28 PM

Just in case any of you are wondering...

I had nothing to do with this truck!

dicksbro 02-14-2019 03:58 AM

^^^^

If that doesn't say Happy Valentine's Day,
I don't know what does! :roflmao:

Are you sure? Would they find your fingerprints if they looked?

I don't know if by just reading that if Dave Assman (owner of the truck bill board), is related to Dick Assman. If they ever get together they'd have one hell of an ass-kicking party.

gekkogecko 02-18-2019 09:50 AM

I get to have an MRI today for my spine.

dicksbro 02-19-2019 02:32 AM

Hopefully the results will be good and results encouraging. We're thinking of you, that's for sure!

dicksbro 02-21-2019 05:25 AM

Guess I'll go and see my cancer doctor this morning. Just a regular meeting but I saw the blood test results and there are a couple of items I hope can be answered positively. In any case, if you're inclined, please keep me in you thoughts. Thanks.

gekkogecko 02-21-2019 07:13 AM

Thinking about it very carefully.

dicksbro 02-22-2019 03:56 AM

Thanks. She is scheduling a CT Scan just as a precaution. She said the tests are a little ambiguous … "Like a weather prediction", but checking it out and being sure seem prudent to me. Don't have it scheduled yet, but hopefully we'll find out today or Monday. All things considered, she said the tests were really quite positive and getting this scan may just add proof that all's okay.

gekkogecko 02-22-2019 11:46 AM

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

dicksbro 02-23-2019 03:08 AM

Thanks, gg.

gekkogecko 02-23-2019 10:43 AM

Still haven't heard from spine-dude's office about scheduling a follow-up. Grrrr.

Goofy 02-23-2019 09:41 PM

Keepin my paws crossed fer ya.

dicksbro 02-24-2019 02:45 AM

Good morning, Goofy. Sorry I missed being here while you were logged on. Anyway, good to see you posting again, we missed you.

gekkogecko 02-24-2019 02:13 PM

Over on a different thread, there were space planes mentioned. Not exactly a space plane, but the crewed version of the Dragon capsule is scheduled to undergo (an uncrewed) full flight test soon: https://www.space.com/nasa-spacex-c...gn=20190223-sdc
