that everyone else seems to love, do you absolutely despise?

I've never been a fan of Star Trek.

not sure if despise is qite the right word but I could never quite figure out what the big deal was with Star Wars.

Never even seen any of the Star Wars movies but I'm not a big sci-fi fan so I really have never understood the fascination.

I'll have to give some thoughts to movies that I despise though.

Stars Wars, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings.

Although I do think Orlando Bloom is a major hottie. :brows:

Well, I did try to watch Lord of the Rings and wasn't able to make it through the first half hour.

Any of the Harry Potter movies

WildIrish

While it's not one of my favorite movies, I do often find myself holding my arms out & screaming "I'm the king of the world!".

But enough of my sex life.

"Breakfast Club". Why the fuck did anyone see any value to that movie?

There's a lot on here I agree with...
Star Wars
Harry Potter...

But my first response was going to be
Lost in Translation
The typical thing people say when I tell them is "well you just don't get it" I get it, I just didn't like it :)

Found a site with the "worst rated 200 movies."

http://www.metacritic.com/film/lowscores.shtml

I was surprised when I saw "Pinocchio" on the list ... until I realized it was not the Disney animation but rather an Italian made production. Another was "The Avengers" which the Chicago Tribune described as "A smorgasbord of bad ideas, sumptuously over-realized." I saw it and tend to agree ... after the TV series, it was truly a movie with good graphics and not much else.

But I doubt those were films that most people were crazy about in the first place, db.

When I finally saw Titanic I didn't think it was anything special. I didn't hate it, but I don't see why people went back to see it over and over.

I'm a sucker for those "I know I'm not supposed to love you, but I do" stories. But I have to admit...the SNL skit runs through my mind as they're loading the lifeboats.

"Don't worry, Pop. I'm sure it'll be our turn soon."

"All first class pianos can now be loaded into the lifeboats." :roflmao:

I hated Titanic. All the girls my age were those ones going back and back to see it. When I eventually saw it, the only thing I loved was the people all dropping off the horizontal boat. It appealed to my darker humour...

"Wheeeee! There goes another one! Wheeeeeee!"

I have to agree but the only good thing I found about the movie was I got to see some nice breast.

I didn't despise it...but I saw it twice and I just didn't care for Pulp Fiction. I thought I'd better watch it twice in case I was missing something that everyone was raving about. Nope...I didn't miss a thing and it still kinda sucked to me.

Also...Eyes Wide Shut. It might have been that Tom Cruise was the star. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head but someone else should have played his role.

I never really despise a movie. I just don't follow the main stream. For example...I loved The Butterfly Effect but it didn't do well at the box office. No one seems to like Ashton Kutcher but I thought he did an excellent job in this particular movie.

I've always been just left of center!

The Matrix trilogy. I thought it was pretentious bullshit with a paper-thin plot.
LOTR. Like Randal said in Clerks 2: "Three movies about walking" :D

I'm with you on LOTR and Eyes Wide Shut (Tom Cruise looked so much like my Dad in that movie it freaked me out!) but I LOVE:

Rocky Horror
Monty Python
Star Wars (the first three!)
Lost in Translation etc.

Other films I can't stand are any of the Naked Gun films and in general any spoof type films (Robin Hood- Men in Tights, Blazing Sadles, Spaceballs etc etc) and I HATE Carry On films but Fussy adores them.

By the way, great thread idea WI. x

"Titanic"....hm, when the Bear I married asked me if I wanted to see the movie, I replied
"No need. i was there."
"What?"
"I was there. You know, when the Germans blew it up."
"WHAT?!"

Thing was, several years before, I had participated in a LARP (Live-Action Role-Playing game) that had us all as passengers on the Titanic. In this particular game, there could have been four different ways for the Titanic to sink, including the iceberg thing.

But some German agents managed to set off a time bomb before the iceberg ever came around.

Nope, movie didn't get it right.
