Skipthisone used to love this time of year...when you get to map out what you hope to grow in the garden and in some places even start your seeds.

Got any grand plans for your graden this year???

I'm focusing primarily on flowers and herbs this year. I'll plant a trellis with cow peas, some tomatoes and peppers just to get me by but I am avoiding the aggravation of more. Although I have to say, with the drastic rise in grocery costs I am seriously wishing I had a greener thumb.

I've already fertilized the irises and am cleaning the beds now for the upcoming shows. If the IRS doesn't take everything
:rolleyes2 I MIGHT actually get to have a garden again this year.

Some of the gardenia bushes I planted last year have not survived so they will be replaced, with what I'm not sure yet. Then I have pots that need to be filled, last year I did begonias that grew from March to about November and looked wonderful the whole time... Since my house is going up for sale in about a month I won't be doing more than necessary to give it a nice drive up appeal.

My garden is still under 2 ft of snow. It is safe to plant here after the May long weekend - mid May. So I have not thought much about it yet.

Damn by the end of May my irises are just about finished blooming by then.
Our last killing frost date is April 15th. But we can plant cold weather crops now.(peas)
And potatoes are always planted on St. Pattys day. :)

I bought flowers to plant in a planter on my porch today, but was too cold to actually do it. I'm ready for spring!

I'd like to put in some stones around our front post light. Kind of frame the area in.

Also hope to get more flowers planted than last year. We added a trellis and I'd like to get some plants growing around it.

I LOVE SPRING!! It is my very favorite time of year and I can't wait to get flowers and veggies started. I found some seeds about a month ago for "flower pot tomatoes" and I planted several; they all came up so I gave some away. I now have a cute little plant about 5 inches high in a big pot at work and I am loving watching it grow. I always have a garden with my mom and stepdad with cukes, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and whatever else strikes our fancy. As for flowers, my all time favorite is the impatient, although they need lots of water, they are beautiful and worth it!

I refuse to plant anything....because of water restrictions i can only water on Wed, Fri and Sunday....and then on those days only between certain hours....

New plants just cant survive and i'm not paying a fortune for a plant that odds are it will die

Because I live in an apartment that doesn't get the right light AND the patio area has VERY STRICT restrictions on what can be on the patio... no plants for me .... but I take great joy that through most of the year flowers bloom here ... however in the spring the ice plants start to bloom and you get entire hillsides in the most vibrant purple, pink, white, etc .... it's gorgeous!

Oh yea, and one of the other big reasons skip liked spring .... got to see the sandles and toes of women! ... missing skip still!

Here's to the memories skip... :x:

I've got a lot of rearranging to do this year. My zebra grasses have become so big that they have to be relocated before they start to grow this year. I think their varigated colors will look stunning against the gray stone of our smokehouse walls...so we are moving them over there and bringing the maiden grass (a smaller, feather like grass) over to where we take the zebra from. I have smaller plants that need more shade. It seems they got too much morning sun last year and I didn't get the effect I wanted. I've transplanted all the daffodil bulbs that the squirrels "relocated" (buried for winter consumption) the year before last...and I see signs of them liking their new home this year. I just bought some multi-colored Sparaxis bulbs to put in my basket-like pot in the middle of the backyard. They look like tiny poppy's. I've checked my Canna, which I have to uproot and store in the cellar each year...and they haven't sent out any sprigs of life yet. It's a matter of time though, because the daylight hours are longer now...and they can "see" the difference and will begin to insist on being planted! They'll go in a sunnier spot this year.

We have a "rule" round these parts...We usually wait till Mother's Day to begin full fledged and safe flower planting. It's the zone I'm in and one learns to live with it! There are veggies I can start inside now...if I had the notion. But, I've scaled down my veggie garden from 100'x30' to 3'x3'...lol...because I was tired of being a slave to THE GARDEN OF WEEDIN!

One more major touch to the smokehouse garden this year...Mr. Lixy bought me a huge "National Geographic", cedar, birdfeeder...that I can't wait to display...as soon as we can pound the stake into the ground, that is. I'll post a pic of it when it's set up. No...he didn't want to take on another project for me this year...as he still has to finish our picnic table and has yet to start on my corner hutch (hint, hint...for when he reads this)...so he purchased the feeder instead of making it himself. Smooth move Mr. Lixy! :x:

Have you thought about adding a coin slot to the Beer Mister, that only accepts tokens issued for finish projects? ::grin:

I herb shopped some yesterday and planted some strawberry plants in hanging baskets. The tomatoes and peppers looked pretty pitiful so I'm waiting til better stock gets here. Last year I had lofahs growing up this huge pyramid trllis Mr. Lil made me and I think I'm going to shoot purple hulls up it this spring. I wish I had gotten the seeds in the ground yesterday cause we are having a gentle rain all day today. We are planting variegated liriope all along the curb this year so I picked those up. I know a certain kid who had best avoid trouble at school this week or be prepared to put all 50 plants in :D

Sounds beautiful Lil...I wish I had your climate now...instead of having to wait it out. We're expecting a Nor'easter tonight into tomorrow...*sigh*

I noticed when I went out to get the morning paper that my ash tree (I think that's what it is anyway) is budding and my neighbors daffodils are in full bloom. I never got around to trimming back my crepe myrtle trees in my back this year... and I also noticed that my rose bushes that I'm desperately trying to kill have plenty of new growth sprouting from the ground... it's definitely spring here.
