Hey y'all!

As some of you may know, celticangel and I were just in Dublin for a long weekend ( and yes, we had a REALLY good time, in case you were wondering!! Maybe even a few pix sometime ;) )

Anyhow, something happened on Monday, which has made me wonder a bit at my "social responsibility", or morals, or WHATEVER it is!!!

Picture this... went to the cash machine (ATM) to get "shopping money" ~ when we got there, there was ALREADY money sitting in the dispensing slot, 120 Euro's (£90/$157 ) to be precise. I vaguely remembered a blonde woman at the machine, but that was all.

Question What would YOU have done?

I'll tell you what WE did in a while!

Well if I found her , I'd give it to her. If there wasn't a way of tracking her down, It's finders keepers. :D

I'm too honest. I'd give it in to the bank and explain it was from the person who used the machine before me. They'd have records of her account number and could redeposit it.

Sorry, I should have explained better; this machine was a "solo", i.e. NOT attached to an operational bank branch, In fact, the sign outside specifically stated "No cash or records held in this office" !!

Plus, you have to remember, Dublin is a relatively unknown city to us... we didn't know where an operational branch might be!

Sorry! :)

If I couldn't turn it into a bank, then I'd turn it in to the police. I'd never be able to keep that little voice in my head quiet enough to hang onto the money myself. Even if it wasn't claimed and the money came to me after the passage of time, I'd probably just donate it to a charitable cause. :)

I probably would have asked her if she'd just made a withdrawal. If she said yes, I'd say I found money left in the machine and if she new how much was there .. I'd give it to her.

If she said no, or didn't have the receipt ... I would have taken it to the bank (if the machine was attached) ... or to the local police station where it could be claimed. I'd leave a note by the machine tellling "to whom it may concern ... if they accidently left cash, take their receipt to whereever I left it."

Problem is db, she was long gone by the time we realised what had happened.....and like I said, I only have a vague idea what she looked like.... if indeed it WAS a "her"!!

I would found a branch of the particular bank in question and explained what happened and hand the money over....or found the nearest police station

I definately would not have felt right in keeping it....she could be a person hard off and who desparately needs the money

Bollocks to being nice she left it, she lost it! It's mine, mine, mine I tell ya! I'm always soooooo careful about making sure I take my money and my card back. The main reason for going to a cash machine is to get money so if you can go to one and come away with out the money then I say you don't deserve it :-)

OK so maybe the little voice inside my head would say I'm a bit naughty but I'd ease that a little by slipping some money into the nearest charity collection tin :D

I definitely wouldn't keep it. Nothing good ever comes from something ill-begotten (in my head and in my life anyway.......it's only good in the movies....and then maybe even NOT then)!

If I can't find her.....If I can't turn it over to the bank.....If I can't find the police station (being in an unexplored city)....If I can't find a shelter or charity............If I've tried all these sources and can't get it off my hands.........

......there must be someone on the streets of Dublin that look worthy of a decent meal and a warm room for the night......so I might give it to a down and out person on the street! But.....I'd try all the other sources first....in the order in which I typed them!

Then I'd go with leaving it at the nearest Police Station and maybe putting a note by the machine indicating where the money could be claimed.

I wouldn't keep it either.

Well, I'm sure some of are wondering what we did!

Somewhat to my shame, now I've read your replies, we ended up keeping (& spending!) most of it!!

My thinking mostly went ^^^ this way; however, we thought the woman(?!) would realise she didn't have her money, and come back for it, so we actually stood around the machine for over half-an-hour, watching to see if anyone would come back and look to see if there was any money/note left. With it being such a weird amount (120 of ANYTHING is a bit odd, I reckon!) we figured it would be easy to scope out if the person was in fact "The One".

Didn't happen. We got some strange looks off two Garda (Police) who passed us twice..... I'm afraid I'm not too enamoured of the Police... I know a LOT of police, and by & large, a relatively small amount of money like that would end up in THEIR pockets! (No offence to any Police-Pixies!!! :)) so giving it to them was not an option as far as I was concerned.

Well, the cash was in 2 fifties and a 20...... one of the fifties went in the "tin" for a local hospice, the rest went in the tills of local shops!

Like I said, I feel a WEE bit ashamed of myself, now I've read your replies...... but being honest with myself, in the same circumstances, I think I'd do the same again. TOTALLY different if I'd paid attention to who was at the ATM, like I would have at home..... would have shouted her, or whatever. But, that's what we did, not much we can do about it now!

Hope y'all don't think TOO badly of me! :(
