Have you ever overheard someone talking on the phone about something and, because of the location the conversation is taking place at, thought it sounded more exotic than it really was?

The reason I ask is because, while sitting at the airport today, I heard this woman talking on the phone. The conversation she was having seemed really interesting and she seemed like a real 'mover and shaker'. When I got home, I thought about the conversation and realised that is was actually pretty mundane. It seems the airport locale made the things she was saying seem more exciting and interesting to me.

Does anyone actually understand what I'm going on about?

I do understand.....but it's never actually happened to me. Usually.....I'll be shopping (for example) and I hear someones phone ring (and I check to see if it is mine.....arrgggg!) and then they'll go on to say stuff like......"I'm in the store and I can barely hear you"......"Nooooo, I'm not picking up your mother on the way home"....etc. LMFAO!

I usually try not to eavesdrop.....but it's rather ridiculous what you hear people talking about lately! As if they couldn't wait till they were home to talk all that nonsense! Cell phones serve a purpose in an emergency or when a phone isn't handy and you MUST talk to so-n-so to make sure of something before you get to them at home.......but I go nuts thinking someone is talking to me when they pass me in a store and are talking....hands free....about the color of the socks they just bought! And....they are talking so loud, as if we all (everyone in the store) would be interested in their life!

Well I have done that too, thinking a conversation was more interesting. I think it has more to do with the fact that you can only hear the one side of it. You're only getting half the information. I mean how many times has someone called you (or have you called someone) and talked dirty and then you (or the other person) can't talk back that way so you are telling them mundane stuff... :D

No-one has ever rung me up just to talk dirty to me...just asking me what socks I bought.

But my brother used to use public transport a fair bit and some of the conversations he used to overhear was pretty amazing. Some people just don't care.
