View Full Version : Porn for public office!

Lilith started this on one tack, I'll take the other...
Larry Flynt has declared his interest for CA Governor, and according to a photo in the Chicago Tribune, so has porn actress Mary Carey (who's 22 - and according to one site was last a resident of FL! - can any of you Californians confirm what requirements are?).
<edit>
Statement from her website:
YES, IT'S TRUE. I AM AN OFFICIAL CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR OF STATE OF CALIFORNIA. AND UNLIKE EVERY OTHER POLITICAL ASPIRANT, I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO HIDE! AT LEAST NOT IN MY MEMBERS AREA. VOTE FOR FULL DISCLOSURE, TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT IN A CLOTHING FREE ENVIRONMENT. AND ISN'T THAT WHAT WE ALL REALLY WANT?
</edit>
What porn/adult industry person would you support for a run for office (I already know Lilith's answer - Rocco :p )?
And if your area has a requirement (IL for example requires the governor to be 25, and you must have lived in the state for three years) who would be a surprise candidate (as in "I didn't realize he/she lived HERE?!?")?

As far as myself, I really don't know who all is an 'active' adult entertainer anymore, and I certainly don't know who I'd support....
There's only two people I can think of - Hef started his business in Chicago, but I think he's too apolitical to try to run for office. I understand why Flynt is doing it, he's always been a huge advocate of the first amendment (not just nudity/porn, but he had that satire case with Jerry Falwell in the 80s and won) - I just don't see Hef or whatshisname that runs Penthouse doing the same.
The other person who used to be connected to the Chicago area and who's gone naked is Jenny McCarthy - so that would be something of a surprise, as she's been trying to re-start her career in LA last I heard ;)
And, considering that three year rule, there are LOTS of people that would surprise me if they popped up in a run for IL office - they'd have to be residents here three years before making a move!

There is a big difference, under the recall rules of California you only need a small amount of signatures and I think $3500 to be on the ballot. So that is why there are going to be prolly 100 people on it.
In Illinois it is actually hard to get on a state-wide ballot. You need lots of sigs and most times they are contested by the leaders of the opposition (I have been through 2 contested signature fights for governor offices). IL politics is very very controlled by the two parties inside members, it is rare for someone to come in from the outside unless they have tons of money.

And Illinois does NOT have a procedure for recalling any elected officials. Something that gets brought up on a regular basis for a constitutional amendment.
You avoided the questions though. :P

You are right, I did...I would say any that could squirt the furthest...better than what we have in IL anyhow. :D

That would certainly be an interesting (and slippery!) party platform. Better not leave out the female squirters ;)
Anybody else?

Setting aside the humor of it all.... (which is rare for me)... I am totally disgusted with what is going on in California. Crawling out of the woodwork for 15 minutes of fame..... (sic).
Of course, I haven't followed
specifically what has been going on in the Gov's office there, but it does lend for questions about our overall system that we seem to feel is the best.
Hanging chads... and now this????????

Not a porn star...although I think some stars might get started on his show...
Jerry Springer toyed with running for state senate in OH. That would have been a funny race.

In California, according to iWon.com:
Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Saturday to submit the $3,500 and 65 signatures needed to qualify for the ballot. As of mid Friday, more than 570 people had expressed interest in running for governor but only 14 had completed the paperwork.
And Maria Shriver has taken a leave of absence from NBC.
osuche, I was hoping Jerry would run too - probably the funniest thing he did since two Chicago reporters quit the NBC affiliate over him (Springer) being named a guest opinion presenter.

To reiterate:
What porn/adult industry person would you support for a run for office?
And if your area has a residency requirement who would be a surprise candidate (as in "I didn't realize he/she lived HERE?!?")?

I vote! I'm proud of the fact that I take the time to take in ALL the issues and evalate all candidates (that I can actually vote for or not)!
If it doesn't concern me (ie: California's governer's race) and I can't do anything about it (ie: without representation).....I have nothing to add here!
I just wanted to add that!
If I don't know who is running (in theory....even).....then I can't evaluate his/her stand on important issues.....and so I can't come up with a single porn star I would consider giving my vote to! Give me his/her platform........and I'll give it a go! I can't just imagine issues someone would stand behind..........I have to have a choice!

I would be glad to be Rocco's First Bitch but he can't run for office...not a citizen:p

If he got citizenship the only office he could NOT run for would be President...

dadaist,
Now THAT'S an idea! How about California being the first state to ratify it? With Arnie as governor the irony would be delicious!
Then, once the amendment had been enacted, Rocco could run on the Democratic ticket.
If he – pick one – won his party’s nomination, he could pick Mary Carey as his running "mate".
Waddya think?

Well actually if an amendment to change the requirement of the birthplace of a person to be eligible to be POTUS came up these days, it probably would gather a bit of steam, thanks to increases in immigration. Whether it would PASS, that's another question. I won't speculate there - but it's not the first time people have grumbled about an immigrant they'd like to run for that office and couldn't, because they weren't born within the USA (for example Carl Schurz, senator from MO, born in Germany).
